is a dual-purpose British racecourse held in Ascot, Berkshire in England. It was inaugurated in 11 August 1711 by Queen Anne while she was out riding from Windsor Castle and she came upon an area of open health that looked in her words ideal for horses to gallop at full stretch. It is attended annually by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and members of the Royal family. Famous races include the Gold Cup, the Coronation Stakes and Diamond Jubilee Stakes .It has earned its reputation worldwide providing five days of best racing which host 13 Flat Group 1 horse races and three Grade 1 Jumps races for a distance of 9.7 kilometers for a purse of US $7.13 million in 2021 an increase from US$4.21million in 2020.
Due to the pandemic in 2020, Royal Ascot was held without audience making the Queen to miss it too. In 2021 she missed the opening since she was still mourning the death of her husband Prince Philip which happened a month ago, she did not miss the event entirely as she attended the final day to watch horse racing. Attendance was also capped to 12,000 from 15th -19th June 2021. Ascot is broadcast to audiences in 175 territories around the world by ITV and Sky Sports Racing in United Kingdom. Queen Anne Enclosure is open to general admission it’s the best as it offers access to Pre-Parading Ring, Winner’s Enclosure and Windsor Enclosure as you can join in with the traditional singing around the Bandstand. Royal Enclosure opened to members only they can book badges for themselves and their guests, book car parking or sponsor new members and as a tradition it continues to be strictly limited.
The first day is undeniably the most unmissable day of the whole week since it’s spearheaded by three impeccable group 1contestants and it’s also a perfect day for socializing. Royal Ascot health is open for public access on non-race days from 6.30am to 7.30pm which is 2.7kilometers loop trail that features a lake and is primarily used for hiking, walking and trail running. Ascot is one of the most gruesome and unpredictable horse race test for 40 horses involved in a race jump over 16 fences on the first circuit and 14 fences in the second circuit and those that will complete the race will run a distance of four miles and two furlongs .Every year horses face risk of injury and death for instance in 2018 races, over 200 horses were reported to have lost their lives. Royal has a tradition of strict dress code with men wearing grey, navy blue or black suit, a tie and socks to cover the ankle. For ladies the attire must be formal daywear dresses modest of length falling just above the knee or longer and hats may be worn but not compulsory with a solid base of four inches in diameter .In line with the Government advice, the use of protective face covering are no longer mandatory, Ascot strongly encourage all personnel and guests to continue wearing face covering and masks especially in indoor Grandstand setting except while drinking and eating.
It is an excellent occasion to enjoy and celebrate with group of friends, family and loved ones sharing a bottle of champagne and eating as it has plenty of time to catch up.
